There has been a lot of coverage in the media about the new search engine Cuil developed by ex-employees of Google.
Google does a better job of presenting results to queries then this engine at the moment, however, given time I think Cuil will surprise a lot of non believers out there.
According to the about page on cuil.com:
"Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page's coherency."
In other words, it's not just looking at keywords and other metrics the engine is analyzing the data and providing context in their index before it creates a ranking for the page.
Bottom Line:
The engine is very new and as it increases the number of pages indexed visitors will see improved results and it will gain popularity slowly but surely. Is it the next big Google killer? Only time will tell.
